A Guide to Bath Magic & Ritual Self Care

Ritualistic self-care is a powerful manifestation tool. Setting the time aside to focus inward on yourself can help you on your way to achieving goals both physical and spiritual. Bathing is one of the oldest self-care rituals. Bathtubs create a space for our subconscious to wander exactly where it needs to go. It is no coincidence a warm watery place is where most life forms start out feeling safe and protected.

Music is an incredible tone setter. The right music selection can get you into that sweet spot head space to focus in on what it is you’re setting out to accomplish in your ritual. Solfeggio frequencies can be a great place to start. A soothing tune for a tranquility ritual, girl pop power songs for prosperity workings or what ever resonates. Music is energy, let it aid you .

Candles and plants are other ways to add intention into your self-care working. Ambiance aside, plants are living spirits. They bring intention and energies all their own. There are many to choose from, but a well-loved plant is usually the most helpful. Candle magic is immensely powerful on its own. Pairing a candle and a self-care ritual is an easy way to strengthen the working.

Beverages should not be overlooked. A cozy tea or a spirited cocktail could be the exact potion needed to steer your spell in the right direction. A chamomile tea promotes calmness while peppermint would be good for cleansing. Red wine is phenomenal for a love working. Vodka Tonic with lemon or lime is a favorite for an uncrossing or banishing. Choosing a corresponding drink to our intention is an enjoyable way to develop the right energy for the spell.

Water is one of nature’s greatest conductors of energy. When lighting strikes water, it dances through the molecules electrifying them. The energy is amplified. We can utilize this same concept when working with water for manifestation. Water is a conduit for our intentions. As we scrub the day away or melt into meditation, water is there to aid in our pursuits. Utilizing the element of water in a spell or ritual is a clever and powerful tool. Vital to life, serene and calm while simultaneously dangerous and deadly. Water has the duality to fit whatever the desired outcome of the ritual is.

The motions of bathing and cleaning hold power. Create motion in a bath by stirring your water while adding in bath salts or flowers. Stirring clockwise to bring blessings in and counterclockwise to cleanse and banish. Scrubbing motions are no different. Rubbing one object on another creates friction adding even more energy to your pursuit. Shaving is a perfect way to sever energetic ties.

Hair care is an often-neglected form of magic. Hair is revered in many spiritual practices. Our hair can work as trap or a filter. When washing, its important to visualize removing stagnation and any funk that may have been lingering. Using shampoos and conditioners with ingredients aligned with your spell is a wonderful way to add another level to your ritual. Products with rosemary and clove are great for veiling while rose and vanilla are fitting for self-love.

Soaking and reflecting is prime shadow work time. Some of the most contemplative thought work comes from sitting at the bottom of a shower as the water cascades downward. When something is bubbling up it can be troublesome to our goals. Taking that time to reflect and sort through your own self-imposed limitations will help you to get out of the way of your own goals.

Bath rituals can be as simple or as in-depth as you want them to be. Not every spell needs to be aesthetically pleasing or 17 steps. Sometimes simplicity is best.  Bath magic is there to give you the space to harmonize with the elements while you set your spiritual journey in motion.

Simple Cleansing Spell

Ingredients

  • One white candle
  • Plate
  • Pen or pencil
  • Fire safe dish
  • Cup of water
  • Salt
  • Dried Oregano
  • Dried Rosemary
  • Bay leaf
  • Olive oil

All while envisioning your intention,

Start by rubbing your candle with a bit of olive oil.  Then sprinkle the dried oregano and rosemary on to the plate. Ask the oregano to help with cleansing your energy and spirit. Ask the rosemary for protection. After that sprinkle a bit of salt on the plate and ask for purification. Always say thank you.

Once you have your plate of salt and herbs and oiled candle, roll the candle on to the plate so the herbs stick to the candle. If you’re using a tea light or 7 day candle, just sprinkle some on the top while keeping fire safety in mind. Once the candle is dressed set it aside.

Draw your bath. Add one cup of salt to the water and stir counterclockwise while envisioning the water washing away what doesn’t serve you.  Add a few drops of olive oil to the water and sprinkle a 1/2 of tablespoon of the dried herbs into to the water.

*If you do not have a bathtub* Take one cup of salt in a bowl and mix it with 1/4 cup of olive oil and a half tablespoon of oregano and rosemary to make a DIY body scrub.

Before you light the candle and enter your bath or shower, take the bay leaf and write your intention on it. “I am cleansed of all ill will towards me” is good but ultimately it is up to you. It’s your spell.

Light your candle in a safe location with a cup of water nearby. Once the flame is established, use it to light the bay leaf on fire. Carefully let it burn down in your fire safe dish.

Once you enter the bath scrub from the top of your body down towards your toes using a counterclockwise motion. As you scrub envision your energy being recalibrated. Picture anything unwanted being sent into the water. When you are finished, exit the bath but do not look back into the water as it drains.
